2011 Denver Arthritis Walk

So last Sunday’s weather was MISERABLE!!  It barely made it to 45 degrees! BRRRRR!!!! We started off the morning with parts of the city experiencing rain, snow, and a mix of both. But, the WALK must go on! Arthritis doesn’t quit in the harsh weather. If anything, it gets WORSE!! I have to be honest; it hurt to get up in the morning! I was struggling with my focus, but I knew I just had to push through! In the back of my mind, I kept remembering that I participate in the walk for the diseases that don’t have medication. There are attendees that come to this walk whose arthritis is in a far worse state than mine has ever been. I hope one day they have the pleasure to experience medical remission like me. So, I sucked it up, put aside my pain and went to the walk. But first, I grabbed the donuts…

144 Donuts for the Walk

When I arrived at 7:30am, it was lightly drizzling and my entire committee, vendors, and volunteers were all bundled up like it was December! It was so cold in fact, I was wearing 5 layers, hid hand warmers inside my gloves, and had 3 more long sleeve shirts in my car! YIKES!

BRRRRR!!!!

But despite all the nasty weather, we had a WONDERFUL, MARVELOUS, FANTASTIC TURN OUT!! I am so proud of everyone for attending the event. It truly touched my heart!!!

Some of you might remember I posted a tweet about my speech. Well, one of my awesome friends taped it for me. So, I leave you with my 12 year old voice, my flapping arm, and my Walk Speech… {PS – you might want to turn on the volume for this ;)}

Although I didn’t get a chance to actually walk at the event, I still had a wonderful time. We raised at least $90,000 and that doesn’t include what we gathered at registration!! Yippee!!!

My friends and family came out to support me. It was so good to see them! Some repeats of the walk, and some brand newbies! Even my twitter/Facebook friends were posting comments all morning about the walk and were thinking of me. It was so humbling. I did everything I could NOT to cry! I still can’t believe what wonderful friendships I have developed over the last few months. Your support keeps me moving; keeps me doing what I’m doing, and keeps me strong! So, this thank YOU seems minimal to all you have given me, but it’s the only thing I can think of to say. So, thank YOU!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

But, I hate ending on a sappy note! Sooooooooo, I leave you with a few of my favorite pictures from the event!

Mizar, Caicos, and Bella

Arthritis doesn’t discriminate! ;) Dogs get arthritis too!!

Hubby and me! :) We both have a form of arthritis!

Can you believe this photo was taken with my CELL PHONE??!! Its one of my favorites!

A few favorites!

Yes, we had ice cream for dogs, a blue gorilla driving a PediCab, Kids, and Mile of Hero Signs at our Walk!!!

Much Love,

PS – I don’t hate comments! ;)

  1. $90k – how wonderful! Thanks for sharing the video and pictures with us – you did a great job pumping up the crowd! I’m super jealous that you don’t have to arrive until 7:30, I have to be there at 6:20 AM for set up!

    • Thanks!! :) I was actually suppose to be there at 7AM but I had a little snag with the donuts! ;) Some of my other committee members are there earlier than that, but I can’t do any of the heavy lifting required at that hour. Best of luck at your walk this weekend. I’ll be rooting for you!
