Getting ready for NOLA

WOW! AMAZING! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!! I’m less than two weeks away until I leave for the New Orleans 2011 Development Conference!! I will be calling it NOLA. 🙂

So, what have I been doing in the meantime, since my announcement?

Well, I immediately booked my airfare, before the price got REALLY EXPENSIVE!! Next, I asked a fellow traveler if she wanted to be my roomie since this was a requirement in order to participate at the conference. Then, I researched the location of where we’ll be, as well as, what available accommodations are at the hotel. For me, I like to know the following:

  1. Swimming pool/hot tub? (to bring swimsuit or not, that is the question!)
  2. Hair Dryer (this saves so much space in a suitcase!)
  3. Location of the meeting rooms to the hotel rooms (helps me decide how many types/pairs of shoes to bring!)

Now, more times than not, I’ll bring my swimsuit and end up not using it. BUT, I’m always of the opinion “I’d rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!” 🙂 It may seem weird to bring this, but I have found that if I have the time to relax, this is one of the easiest ways to go do so! Plus, its easy on the arthritic joints! 😉

I love my hairdryer, but if I don’t have to bring it, and potentially lose my beloved hairdryer, I’ll use the hotels. Also, knowing the climate of New Orleans, I’ll probably be wearing my hair wavy, thanks to humidity and the quick-fix option!

Now, I’m pretty shoe obsessed! But, after experiencing a trip where I tried to consolidate my shoes into a fair few in order to save space, my feet were KILLING ME at the end of said trip. So, now I plan accordingly to bring a comfortable messenger bag that I carry around with me when I travel with a surplus of comfortable pairs of shoes, so I may easily swap throughout the day. This has saved my feet in MANY, MANY TRIPS!

So, now that I know those things for my trip, it’s onto the other stuff I’ve completed this week.

  1. reviewing the agenda and see if there are any outfit requirements
  2. refill meds and make any necessary doctor appointments
  3. go through all of my toiletries and see if I need any refills or new STORAGE

Towards the end the NOLA trip, they’re hosting a Mardi Gras Krewe. COOL!! So, what does that mean?? It means each Arthritis Foundation region are working together towards their own unique theme. With this theme in mind, I will need to compile my outfit accordingly. NO, I will not tell you! Just in case there are participants from NOLA who will actually read this post. 😉 However, if you follow me on Twitter, I will take a snap-shot of my CRAZY outfit and share. If you do not have a twitter account, well, I guess you’ll have to wait until I post about the trip. 🙂 Until then, you will have to sit on your hands and wait.

Luckily, my Remicade appointment is today, so I don’t have to worry about being sore on this trip. Nothing worse than having a trip right around the time your infusion is due. If you have the ability to reschedule so you can be at your optimal prime, do so!

Oh, what a funny word, TOILETRIES!! Seriously, have you looked at the spelling of such word. Anyways, no, I don’t have specific toiletries that I use when I travel. I usually just take my daily stuff and put it in smaller containers. But I think I’m more excited about all of the organization I have. I have storage for pills, storage for make-up, storage for liquid, storage for jewelry. STORAGE!! Now, that’s a word that doesn’t look funny.

Until next week, I’m now onto STORAGE for my carry-on.  I love my carry-on…
