Apple-A-Thon

YOU GUYS!!! My friend, Jenna, over at The Feeding Edge and Art Apple A Day is celebrating her 1 year accomplishment TODAY!! IN THE BIG APPLE!!

What in the world am I talking about? Well, I’d be happy to share!

I met my friend Jenna, through Twitter. Can you believe it?? Yup, we started off as iFriends and now we’re reality friends. LOL! She has ankylosing spondylitis and I have ankylosing spondylitis. For the last year she has been drawing an apple a day to bring and spread awareness about the disease we just both happen to suffer with. And let me tell you, her art work is beautiful!!

How beautiful?? Well, my header on my page is one of her apples!! Yes, that’s right, she wrote a story about me! 🙂 I was so humbled (and still am!), that I asked her if I could use her art work for my blog. She said “yes, of course!!”

Another one of my favorite apples is Day 342 – Anything Can Be. Shel Silverstein has been one of my favorite authors since the day I could remember. My dad and I would read them together. I would sit in his lap and he would read them to me. Then when I got older and I could read, I would read them to him. One of my fondest memories I have of my Daddy. The gift he gave to me on my wedding day was The Missing Piece and the sequel The Missing Piece Meets the Big O. His speech was themed around those two books. Apparently when I was little I asked my dad, “Why can’t he be happy without his missing piece?” On my wedding day, during his speech, he said that I should continue being happy, content, and myself, even though I have found my missing piece. ADORABLE, right? Well, this apple Jenna drew, along with her story is something very similar! My friend Jenna wrote “As an adult it is so difficult to keep going after your dreams and to continue to believe that anything can happen, anything can be.” This is so true, and I do believe those who fight a disease, any disease – cancer, diabetes, arthritis, hyperhidrosis, have to fight harder. I ask for you to continue to chase your dreams. It’s not always easy, sometimes lonely, but definitely worth the risk!

Now, I can relate to almost all of the apples Jenna has drawn over the last year. Yes, I’ve read all of her stories, seen all of her apples, and we even joke about apples whenever we get together. The apples just come to us! Jenna is also the one who encouraged me to write my story about my AS journey on my blog. She’s given me advice, tips, encouragement, and told me to write regularly! Yes ladies and gents, you are here because she told me to share my story, because she said that I have a story, tips, and advice that people can learn from and all from a woman who is in her mid-twenties! I’m not sure about that, but at least I hope so! 🙂 She also told me to write my story for the Hope and Apples Campaign last April. You can read that story here.

The last apple that I will talk about is an apple that I change my facebook profile picture to every 4 weeks and its called Day Ninety five – Appily Infused. A picture of an apple being infused with a biologic drug. She talks about how much the drug can cost, what the little viles mean on the picture, and did you see the cute little mouse? LOVE IT! Yup, this picture makes me smile every 4 weeks when I get my infusion.

So, why am I talking about my friend Jenna? Other than the love I have for her? Or the sure joy I have for such a wonderful friend? 🙂 Its because she hit her 1 year mark. A lady with ankylosing spondylitis, who has been crazy busy with other projects, who has a loving husband, a family, and furry friends, has continued to draw an apple a day NO MATTER WHAT. She has written a story and composed an apple a day, every day, for the last year. This is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT! Every day, for the last year, she has always drawn and written a story about ankylosing spondylitis. About her life with the disease and her just daily living. She’s had to make sure she hit her deadline EVERY DAY! NO MATTER WHAT! If her internet was down, she had to make other arrangements in order to make sure that apple was posted. Truly, she has hit her dream today. She made it. She did it.

Now, its only appropriate to go out with a BANG! She is in the BIG APPLE today drawing apples for the next 24 hours. The apples created today are being sold in order to raise money for the Spondylitis Association of American for research and education programs about ankylosing spondylitis. Someone who has AS is staying up all night to continue to DRAW and CREATE beautiful art. Someone who has drawn all year, apples, apples, and more apples, to create even more beautiful apples!

Not only is she in the Big Apple creating these apples for 24 hours, her family, friends, and supporters of her blog are joining her. If you are in the New York Area, I encourage you to stop by. Tell her I said hello! 🙂

Oh wait, you want to know where? ALL OF THE DETAILS FOR THIS EVENT CAN BE READ HERE!!!!

Yes, indeed, I am very proud of my friend! You now know my favorite apples, what’s your favorite apple on her site?

Be sure to send a lovely, encouraging tweet to my friend. Or, you can say it on her facebook page. She needs all of our love, support, and determination in order to keep going. SEND THE LOVE! And buy an apple. For the sake of further research for those who are less fortunate than me who still haven’t been able to find a drug to stop the progression of this disease, and hopefully, a cure. Plus, it would make a great Christmas or birthday present. 🙂

Thank you Jenna for the words of encouragement you’ve given me. You have touched my heart, soul, and are a true friend. I LOVE YOU!!

Off to a draw an apple for support,
