Ease-of-Use: Fiskars® Titanium Easy Action Scissors

The Arthritis Foundation’s Ease-of-Use Commendation recognizes products proven to make life easier for people who have arthritis and other physical limitations. These products are independently tested by experts and evaluated by people with arthritis. I have been asked to review a number of Ease-of-Use products during May, Arthritis Awareness/Action Month in the US. This is one of them…

On Saturday, May 19th, around 10pm, I was sitting on the living room floor making those wonderful hats, as well as, a team sign. You see, I promised my team not only would they receive a fun item, as they do every Arthritis Walk, but also this year, a team sign.

Last year, I had every intention of doing one, but quite frankly what was the point since the high temperature was a whopping 45 degrees F. That was last year. This year, the high was to be in the mid 70s!! I HAD TO MAKE A SIGN!!

By this time, at 10pm, I was exhausted. I had brunch with one of my dearest friends, been running around all day completing last minute errands for the walk (I volunteered), organizing the day-of volunteer sign-in list, all while a gray-sky, rainy storm settled into the city. Yup, exhausted.

As I was collecting my supplies for the team sign such as: poster board – check. Printed letters – check. Tape – check. Scissors – uhhh. No check. I needed SCISSORS!! And then…there they were, in all of there glory, the Fiskars® Titanium Easy Action Scissors, singing to me. Yes, I felt like an angel was singing to me “Your hands will be fine. You can do this. Use me!”

So, why not? Well, at first I was hesitant to use them for paper. You see, the package says “fabric” and if you’ve ever lived in a household whose family members sew – uh me, Mom, Aunt, Grandmother- you know its a sin. Yes, a sin, I tell you!! But my hands were screaming at me. Hey – the angel was singing at me. I had to use them.

I grabbed them and away we went. All of us, downstairs to sit in-front of the TV to cut out those letters to then tape onto the poster board. All because I promised my team. WOW!

I sat down, and after I swallowed a sip of my wine, opened up the package. I do have to say, the package it was contained in was also easy to open. It was nice not to have to find another pair of scissors just to open the pair of scissors. You know what I mean? Your nodding your head, aren’t you? Yup, we’ve all been there! But not these…

Now, you would think, being a crafty lady that I am, I could just cut away. Straight lines and all. However, I have to admit – I hate cutting. I cannot cut a straight line to save my life. I either missed that class in first grade when I moved or I blame those kid scissors. Maybe both!

After careful deliberation on placement and Mr. P’s approval (after all, he’s co-captain with me!), I began cutting.

Oh man, was it nice. A spring-action design opens the blades after each cut. The stainless-steel blades feature a precision-ground edge that stays sharp longer and cuts all the way to the tip — perfect for those of us who can’t cut a straight line to save their life (me!) and I’m looking forward to cutting them with fabric!  Additionally, the blades include a titanium coating that is three times harder than steel to provide superior durability and lasting value. So, these scissors aren’t sissy, so men – you’ll like these too! The handle is ergonomically sculpted with Softgrip® provided excellent cutting control and keeps material flat for that precise cut. The only complaint was that my small hands weren’t exactly 100% comfortable. They were a little big – but as Mr. P reminds me – I have very small hands!!

Final results?

Not only did I finish without my hand freaking out, but the ability to get a very straight, even, white line around all of my black letters, was better than expected.

FABRIC – here I come!!

Much Love,

If you’re a newbie here, welcome!
